Cindy's Bio
Married, mother of 2 boys I have always been active all my life starting from elementary school. Being involved in gymnastics, track & field and cross country. I was never in to playing ball sports, I was way too shy to join any team's! After High School I joined my first gym with a friend and started taking Aerobic Class's and I just loved it. Never really did any weights then just kept doing different class's and continued to ride my bike around everywhere and still would run down to the gorge and up the stairs, awesome workout! After 1 year of being at this gym I decided that I would love to teach class's so I happened to see an add for two different gyms in which were hiring for Aerobic instructor's so I went for an interview put a routine together and got hired, mind you I had to go take a course so I would be certified to teach. I stayed with this gym for 14yrs. until I went to another gym that was opening in the town.
That was the year I got certified to teach Spinning, what a great workout! Throughout the years I met so many nice people who in which I still see some of them or even run in to them. A lot say to me how much they miss my class's and why am I not teaching anymore, that make's me feel great to know how much I was liked! It was in 1999, when I decided to start to compete. I really wanted to compete in Fitness but I didn't have a gymnastics background, I had only done the beam and the uneven bars in school, but never the floor. When I found a Federation that had a new category 'Figure' which was geared towards athlete's who wanted to compete but never had a gymnastics back ground, I thought this is for me! I knew I had to find someone to help me with a 'diet' to get ready for this show and also a choreographer for a routine. So I was able to find someone for both area's and I got started.
At times I couldn't believe I was actually going through with it, because the thought of me being on stage made me want to 'puke' I would get so nervous about it. I would try to visualize myself on stage and I would feel even worse, but I told myself this is something I want to do and I am going to do it! Well, I did the show, even thought for the night show I almost wasn't going to do it, because I knew my family was out in the audience, but my sister was there for me and she helped me get myself focused and knowing I all ready did the pre-judging the hard part was over, this was the fun part of the whole show! So on went the night and when it came to the award's, I couldn't believe that I had Won! Not only did I beat my 'fears' of being on stage in front of a crowd of people I had just won my first show! A memory I will always cherish, I was so proud of myself! So ever since then I have been hooked to competing and I enjoy it so much, always knowing that I am accomplishing a great achievement in just getting out on stage!
World Championship's 2007 was a great year for me when I met Darrin at a O.P.A. show and approached him to ask if he would help me with my "diet" for my upcoming show. Wow, am I ever glad I did that! When Darrin and I met and he went through my upcoming week's for my food prep. I was so excited to see some food's that were on my list. I couldn't believe the food's I was allowed to eat, it was absolutely great! This was no "diet" for me let me tell you, it made my next 7 weeks so easy to get through and I wasn't even hunger like I usually am when I'm "dieting" for a show. I would highly recommend anyone who is entering a show to contact Darrin and let him help you with your Food Prep for a show, believe me, you will love it! All the best to everyone competing! Believe in yourself and be the best YOU can be!
